Project Almost Complete

Some people blog about their children, others might tell a funny childhood story. Since I do not have any children of which to write about, nor do any childhood stories come to mind, you get to hear and see more about our house. 

If you recall, from my last post, we were in the process of tearing a wall down.

Taking the wall down was the easy part. It was the patching, drywalling, electrical, and painting that took the most time, and we still are not quite to the finish line.

I was able to paint a couple weeks ago. I tested several Sherwin Williams colors. I wanted a neutral color that was a mixture of gray and beige. According to my research there are colors such as "greige." That was news to me.

After testing a few, I chose a color called "accessible beige." I have been happy with it. For anybody wanting to attempt with a greige color, I have four samples of Sherwin Williams paint for you to try.

Here is a picture prior to painting. I was so anxious to say goodbye to those red walls. I do not see many more red walls in my current or future home(s). I like red in the homes of others, but I did not know how to handle it or tie it in with my style of decorating.

Painting this room was so much fun, and not only because I enjoy painting. The paint I used was a dream to work with. One gallon of Sherwin Williams Interior Super Paint was all I needed, and that included two coats.

Don't mind my frog culottes. I went through a major "frog" stage prior to one of my mission trips to Mexico, which I mad the culottes for. If you ask my husband, he may say that I am still stuck in the frog zone. Let me tell you, frog fabric made sewing much more fun back in the day. At least I got rid of the frog pajamas and slippers. Anyways, back to the topic at hand.

Here is the finished product. Some lighting makes the walls look gray, other lighting shows more of a beige color coming through. I guess I got my "greige."

Starting this project, I knew that I did not want to spend much money on decorations. My only splurge was the rustic looking clock, which I feel I got at a reasonable price. Inspired by my love for the TV show Fixer Upper, I had this exact clock in mind for the space. When I found it at Hobby Lobby, I wasted no time carrying it up to the register. Not only was I excited to have found it, but I did not want any other items to tempt me. I had come for the clock, and I would leave with the clock, and only the clock.

We still have a few finishing touches we need to make on this project, but we are getting closer to the ending point. I am excited to make use of the openness of this room.

Once again another month has flown by. We started February off by an entertaining evening to the rodeo, at the Hat Creek Arena in Van Wert. 

My brother's family has been to this rodeo multiple times. We met them for supper ahead of time and enjoyed the rodeo together.

Bonnie came along as well. What a fun, likeable gal she is. Briggs enjoyed hanging out with her too.

I was impressed by the show. There were some intense moments, but all was well. I can't think of a worse way to go than by being trampled by a bull. Thankfully the riders have much quicker reflexes than myself. Crazy to think that people do this for a living, or for fun.

I had some cute visitors on Valentine's Day. My sister's family came out Sunday for church, and then back to our house for supper.

My good friend Kendra was telling me, the week before, how she had made heart-shaped meat balls when she had company the previous year around Valentine's Day. I had been planning to have meatloaf, and decided to try it. They turned out pretty well, and they even looked like hearts after they were baked.

I made little treat bags for the kids. I will do whatever it takes to lure them back to our house in the future.

Oh, and here is my Valentine. It was technically our third Valentine's Day together. We were engaged during the first one. They just keep getting better with this amazing man. I am blessed beyond measure to spend each and every day with him.

A Fragment From My Life

After a couple of long, dramatic days at work, I am enjoying a day off just staying at home, with not a care in this world. Work has only been more stressful this week due to some upcoming changes which will take place in the near future. The doctor in which I have worked for, the last ten months, informed us that he will be leaving Paulding Hospital at the end of the year. Like I have told a few people, God always tends to bring about change when his children start to get quite comfortable with what they are doing. 

I was getting very comfortable with my job, maybe even to the point that I thought I could handle it all on my own. I realize that God wants us to depend on him for the grace and strength that we so desperately need, no matter what area it may be in. It has been a good reminder for me this week, and I am actually looking forward to what He brings about.

My project this morning, and most likely my project for future mornings, included painting the lovely dark woodwork and doors that grace our entire house. I have done a few rooms here and there, but I still have a good amount left to do. I can finally check our bedroom off the list. White just makes everything feel and look more clean, although it might be a little bit harder to keep clean.

I was recently on a baby shower for a friend from Latty, and we (the committee) had some fun with it. The soon-to-be father works as a mechanic for a local John Deere business, which spurred the idea of a John Deere themed baby shower.

I failed in getting many pictures of actual people, especially since I was too busy taking pictures of all of the cute ideas that we stole from Pinterest.

Thank you for the use of the chalk board, Mom. It was the perfect color.

I took this picture by standing on a chair. Looking at it from eye level, you really could not recognize what it was meant to be. It was a nice thought though.

It was such a fun shower, along with a great group of ladies to work with. We may have gone a little overboard with the theme and all, but it will be a shower to remember.

I am always happy to share these fragments from my life. Thanks to those of you who keep up with my blog, it is crazy to think that I have been at it (not very faithfully, but periodically) for over a year.

Life Lately

Hello again blogging world! After getting home from vacation, we had a couple of relaxing weeks and now it seems as if life has sped up a bit. At one moment I am having a pity party for myself as I look at the calendar and am disappointed not to see any weekend plans, and then the next weekend I am feeling stressed because of too much going on. Nothing is ever quite perfect.

I have been working full time the last couple weeks, which hopefully will be temporary. I realize that I have gotten spoiled with having a part-time job, but it really is so convenient to feel caught up around the house or prepare for company during the week. 

Thankfully I have still managed to check some items off of my to-do list.

I finally got our bedroom painted last week. After living in our house for almost six months, it was about time. It went from white to a light grey. It still has a ways to go as far as decorating, but I am glad to have the painting out of the way.

I also had been wanting to make a wreath for our front door. This wreath was surprisingly easy, and it adds a little charm to the front of our house.

Fall is so fun to decorate for! I hope you don't think I am pushing the season, but I want to enjoy my mums for as long as I can.

I was also privileged to take some senior pictures last week. I have know Olivia for years, and now she is all grown up. I remember her as a little kindergartner at Kingdom Academy, and now she is a beautiful young lady.

Here are a few of my favorites. She was fun to capture! Afterwards we went out for lunch and had a good chat. What a special girl. I am excited to see where God leads her in the future days after high school.

This post is short and sweet, but at least you know that I am still in existence. Goodbye to August and hello to September. Looking forward to what September has in store!
